Revisitor is a self-driven experiment in narrative format. Formally, it’s a book which is intended to be read on a tablet device, like a graphic novel. Its narrative is presented in textual fragments, each of which serves as a window into a fictional world where news headlines, paperbacks and editorials interweave to provide multiple perspectives on a multi-threaded storyline.
The goal for Revisitor was to create a story that feels “lived in,” as if the core technology in its story could exist in our reality. Each page takes design cues – typography, layout and styling – from the various media that are given a voice in each fragment. It was self-published digitally on the iBooks and Amazon storefronts.
To promote the book, extend and ultimately ground the fictionalized reality of Revisitor’s world within our own, a website – complete with an interactive “beta program” sign-up for prospective candidates – as well as a compelling social media campaign was created. Each of these components presented the technology of Revisitor as a real offering.
